A Portfolio Approach to STEM Education

For an entire community to substantially increase talent, focusing on one specialized school or program will not suffice.  There must be a systemic effort to transform teaching and learning in classrooms across the region throughout all types of schools – traditional public, community, and private.

In addition, these classrooms and schools must be networked together to learn from each other, and have access to teaching and learning supports that enable them to implement cross-disciplinary, project-based, inquiry-based approaches that are grounded in real world events, activities and careers. That is why EDvention has developed A Portfolio Approach to STEM Education based on the premise that as long as the critical elements and rigorous expectations of the STEM approach are firmly in place, great STEM education can be implemented in a variety of ways and in a multitude of settings to address student needs.

The Dayton Regional STEM Center will be the lynchpin in this strategy, providing curriculum, support and training for teachers and leaders, and networking schools and educators together to learn from national experts and from one another.
